Whats to be said about a CalStreets skateboard deck? It would be easiest to say it is exactly what a skateboard deck should be, but more. CalStreets decks are crafted to perfection to enhance your skateboarding. Everything from start to finish is focused on giving the best possible performance a skateboard deck has to offer.

To start off, the CalStreets decks are made by a US manufacture. Why is this so important you say? Many people donā€™t realize it but when their decks are made in China or other far away places the wood will often sit for weeks on end in the delivery process, being exposed to moisture and drying out repeatedly. This will result in your deck chipping or fraying easily. No to mention a generally weaker board. When the wood for CalStreets boards is cut down from the great lakes region it is sent immediately to the shop where it can be sliced into veneers. When the veneering process happens quicker and the board is manufactured closer to the date the tree was initially cut down, you get better wood quality.

Speaking of the manufacture, the boards are made with decades of experience versus a new shop that has been just set up. Just because something is new doesnā€™t mean it is better. These guys take a real old school approach to making a board. High quality all the way through. Retouching on what was said earlier, when the wood for other brands has to be shipped further away to be made and then sent back as decks, the shipping price takes a toll on what is left to spend on actual manufacturing. With staying with closer more well experienced manufacturing the decks have higher quality workmanship and materials.

When you first pick up the deck you will notice in your hand the rail or edge of the deck has a very consistent and smooth feel. This is the foundation on how amazing board feel is created. When a board has a very nice edge the skater can not only feel the shape of their board better but be able to flick flip tricks with greater ease. When comparing to some of the most popular decks in the market it is noticeable the difference in the quality of this particular finish not only in workmanship but as well as consistency.

As prior mentioned, the board feel is absolutely amazing. Along with consistent concaves and kick heights, the CalStreets decks are very carefully thought out. So much so that exact specifications have been tweaked ever so slightly to meet rider demands. The leverage points on these decks are absolutely spot on. The relationship between truck placement and the dips allows for the best scoop and lock in on all your nose and tail slide variations.

Grominate Skateboard Decks Slicks Canada USA
Speaking of sliding, the decks feature a slick bottom. Originally this idea was popularized in the early 90s but died off quickly due to the slicks being heavier and peeling off. These decks have mastered it, the weight difference between these decks and a standard heat transfer 7 ply deck is virtually un-noticeable. The slick is so thin and is actually fused onto the wood bottom rather than being strictly glue like the good old days.

Not only does the slick bottom improve the longevity of your skateboards life by allowing less wear to happen to the wood itself, but it also improves the way you skate. To best describe it, the slick is such that it doesnā€™t throw you off with speed but it makes everything that much more smooth and consistent feeling and helps you through that last bit of a rail or ledge.

CalStreets Grominate Deck SeriesAesthetically speaking, these decks have an advantage over other skateboard decks. Two advantages actually. The resolution on the slick material is actually up to four times higher than other top quality boards on the market. The second aesthetic advantage id have to point out is the artwork. Much of todays skateboard scene in terms of deck graphics are recycled versions of things that have already happened. Nothing seems to new, but CalStreets seems to be able to keep it fresh!

I think the best part about CalStreets decks is there is no middle man. Traditionally with skate companies everyone nickel and dimes you as much as they can. You have the person who wants to make a board, he pays the manufacture a fair amount for that deck. Now here is where it gets a bit odd. Instead of being able to purchase it from the company, a skateshop will have to go through what is known as a distributor. A distributor will buy a board from a particular brand then resell it to a local skate shop. That is if they approve of them.

Ā CalStreets boards are manufacture direct so you can do away with all of that stuff and walk away with a higher quality board for less money. Not to mention when you do that your supporting a local company, putting them in a position where they can give back to the skate community that supports them. A lot of brand loyalty is out there, and itā€™s a shame that many of these great companies wonā€™t even get to see who truly love their products because the way it is been set up they are completely cut off from the person riding their board down the street having the time of his or her life.870-header-Calstreets-stripes-logo-only-trans
