STARTING SMALL, ROLLING STRONG
At CalStreets BoarderLabs, we’ve always believed skateboarding should start as early as the spark hits—and now that spark can light up as young as age three. With our new Tiny Riders section, the next generation of skaters can finally get set up on boards sized specifically for their smaller feet, lighter weight, and growing confidence.
For years, young skaters had to adapt to oversized, heavy setups that made learning harder than it needed to be. Now, with decks like the Anti Hero Classic Eagle Mini 7.3″, Real Team Classic Oval True Mid 7.5″, and Real Team Classic Oval True Mid 7.75″, kids can get a pro-quality ride built just for them.
WHY SIZE MATTERS MORE THAN EVER
Board size isn’t just about width—it’s about balance, control, and progression. When a child steps on a full-size 8.25″ board, it can feel like standing on a plank. The stance is too wide, the weight is unmanageable, and every push or kickflip attempt feels awkward.
A properly scaled deck, however, allows smaller riders to center their stance naturally, apply pressure where it counts, and feel that satisfying pop that teaches them how skateboards really respond. The shorter length and tighter wheelbase on these True Mid and Mini shapes make turning and flicking more intuitive.
CHOOSING THE RIGHT SIZE FOR THE RIGHT RIDER
Choosing the right board size starts with simple proportions. For riders as young as three to seven, a deck around 7.3″ wide and 29″ long—like the Anti Hero Classic Eagle Mini—is the sweet spot. It’s light, easy to maneuver, and lets even the tiniest groms push and carve without struggling for control.
For slightly older or taller riders, Real’s True Mid decks in 7.5″ and 7.75″ give that next step in performance. These boards have slightly longer wheelbases and wider stances, ideal for pre-teens and smaller teens ready to take skating seriously. Each of these boards shares one essential feature: the same 7-ply maple construction and quality you’ll find on pro-level decks. That means young riders aren’t limited to “toy” boards—they’re learning on the real thing.
BUILDING CUSTOM SETUPS FOR TINY SHREDDERS
The beauty of this evolution is that kids can now custom build their own setups from the ground up. At CalStreets, that means pairing the right trucks (usually 129mm to 139mm for these mid and mini sizes) with soft-rolling wheels that match their terrain—smaller diameters for parks and harder surfaces, or slightly larger for rough pavement and driveways. Parents can work alongside our crew to choose components scaled for both the rider’s size and their style, creating a setup that fits perfectly now and grows with them. This isn’t about buying something they’ll “grow into”; it’s about giving them the right board that lets them grow on it.
A NEW GENERATION OF SKATERS BEGINS HERE
Tiny Riders marks a new chapter in skate progression—one where early balance, confidence, and creativity can thrive from day one. Smaller skaters deserve gear that’s light, responsive, and designed for their scale. By matching the right deck size to the rider, kids experience the joy of control and the thrill of improvement immediately.
At CalStreets BoarderLabs, we’re proud to make sure every young shredder—from their first push to their first ollie—has the perfect platform to roll on. Because no matter their size, the dream to skate big starts small.
