Sector 9 Complete Longboards
Sector 9’s journey into the heart of longboarding culture began in the sunny summer of 1993, when a tight-knit group of friends started crafting skateboards in their backyard.
What started as a single board quickly multiplied, sparking the onset of the Sector 9 longboarding movement.
The brand’s unique name has its own quirky origin story, tied to a friend from Hawaii known for affectionately dubbing people as ānineballs.ā
One day, he called to check in on the group, only to be greeted by the answering machine. His message, āWhat’s going on over there at Sector 9?ā inadvertently coined a term that reflected the crew’s vibeāa household of nineballs.
This happened around the same time their beloved hill cruiser, a repurposed snowboard, was swiped from Northbird in La Jolla. As they were putting the final touches on a couple of replacement boards, they needed a logo. The message, with its catchy and fitting nature, inspired the name that would soon become iconic in the longboarding world.
