The Carver Aipa Sting features clear grip to show off the classic blue flames, one of the most iconic airbrush designs in surfboard history
In 1974 Ben Aipa, the legendary Hawaiian surfer and shaper, made his mark in surfboard history with the development of ‘Da Sting’, a quick-turning shape he first made for Larry Bertleman. “I would watch him at the Lighthouse for a moment, and I could see what he was attempting to do… I knew he was the future, so I went back to the shop and imagined the kind of board dynamics he’d need to get the maneuvers he was attempting” Ben said.
How perfect then that we would collaborate with the Aipa family to make a Carver surfskate model that also achieves the same quick turning, fast pumping maneuvers we pioneered for skateboards in 1996. The clear sugar coat grip shows off the classic blue flames, one of the most iconic airbrush designs in surfboard history.
The Aipa Sting’s performance comes from it’s precision-pivot Carver trucks, fast and grippy Roundhouse wheels and a 7-ply rock hard deck; each the result of over 2o years of surfskate innovation and experience. Made for the world market, it comes with the commitment to good design and durability that makes the Knox Quill a true surfskate of the people so wherever you are, you can make waves.
CARVER CX TRUCK:
The CX Truck is Carver’s hybrid surf and skate truck. On the one hand it’s a lightweight standard RKP (Reverse King Pin) hanger and base, and on the other it has a patented geometry that squeezes every bit of turn and pump from its simple design.
With the patented design, CX pumps like a C7, but the CX lands airs and rides fakie with more stability in comparison. This opens up aerial maneuvers, and keys in with the latest progression of airs in surfing. This original Carver design is quickly becoming the most popular surfskate truck in the world.
The CX truck is a single-axis truck with a precision pivot pin which allows for very snappy turns, like riding a thruster surfboard, and replicating the quick response you feel as you pump for speed. The single axis permits one axis of adjustment before a different shape or hardness of bushing is needed. It’s the same weight as a standard truck, but the simpler, lighter truck design is better for airs, skate parks and transition.
The CX trucks are ideal for progressive airs, reverses, and those who prefer a snappy turn.

In the early 70’s legendary shaper Ben Aipa changed the face of modern surfing with his highly conceptual shape named “Da Sting”. Famous surfers like Mark Liddel, Buttons Kaluhiokalani & Larry Bertlemann took “Da Sting” to Oahu’s North Shore proving grounds and blew the surfing world away. This modern and progressive shape made previously impossible maneuvers possible. As the surfing world mourns the loss of Ben Aipa, Carver Skateboards pays homage to his legacy with the release of our own Aipa “Da Sting” surfskate and a short doc featuring Duke Aipa as he and his son Kolby Aipa carry the family the torch of Aipa Surfboards.
