A look under the hood of the Mellow Drive reveals a serious power machine. The data sheet of the custom made motors promise 6Nm (3Nm each), 1000 Watt per motor and a top speed of up to 40 km/h (25mph). In real life it means that this rear wheel drive accelerates you from zero to hero at full thrust all the way. If you compare the performance of a Mellow Drive to automotive standards the board (without a rider) provides the same boost as a 500HP super car.
In addition, the in-wheel motors are completely encapsulated and (IP65) water and dust proof. To keep the feeling that you’re still riding a skateboard you are fully capable of pushing and freeriding whenever you desire.

The frame is the backbone of the Mellow drive. It’s a one piece component cast of magnesium metal. For maximum stability the frame was designed as a uni body frame without any seams or bolts. The magnesium frame, which is even lighter than aluminum, is a solid protection for the battery against curbs and impacts of all kind. The click-in mechanism, makes it snuggle tightly into the frame and releases it by the push of a button.The Mellow frame has the same standard 6 hole pattern like a normal skateboard truck. This means you can mount it under pretty much any deck you like!
When riding at high speeds or braking, thermal energy occurs. This can be a safety hazard to your Mellow Drive and thus to you as a rider. To avoid critical situations, the temperature inside the Mellow Drive is constantly monitored at 6 different measuring points.
The distinctive ribs of the frame allow the heat to dissipate over a bigger surface which cools the system. A second braking resistor underneath the surface also absorbs heat to improve the performance. The longer your system stays cool, the longer you can brake.
Apart from the longevity of the materials used for the Mellow Drive it’s the intelligence of the electronics that define the quality of this riding machine. That being said, Mellow teamed up with TQ Systems, an Airbus supplier to create a top notch product. We used only high quality components like the motor controllers from Texas Instruments and implemented a logic that allows the system to monitor and protect itself.
WHY MAGNESIUM?
The frame is made out of solid magnesium which is extremely strong, affordable and can easily be recycled. Magnesium was chosen by Mellow for their frame for a lot of reasons; it’s light, strong, and can be recycled at the end of it’s life!

The easy click-in 
mechanism allows you to swap your battery pack in just seconds on your Mellow Drive. The battery pack features on one load will carry you up to 9 miles (14.5km) or charge your iPhone up to 9 times.
With a range of 7-9 miles per battery pack, one mellow battery covers most eco mode trips in the city. The Mellow App also helps you to optimize your range based on riding mode and get you smoothly from A to B. Need to extend your range? Bring and extra pack and double your range on the go.
There are batteries, and then there are better batteries. With its high quality cells from the Tesla supplier and an integrated battery management system to protect them, the Mellow Battery Pack offers power to rely on.

The 
custom-built Mellow slide control gives you perfect control over throttle and brake. Designed and developed from scratch, the Mellow Remote is a one button device that out grows the look and feel of all the toy remotes out there.
The Remote was custom designed to make the handling of the Mellow Drive as intuitive as possible. It offers full control over acceleration, braking and the riding modes in the palm of your hand. The Remote was designed to make you move naturally. Slide forward to accelerate, slide backwards to brake. While the rubber coated surface offers extra grip for more control and safe handling.
The energy use of the Remote is extremely low. As a result, this means on average you might only have to charge it every couple of weeks. Check the status of your ride. If you push the button of the Remote a hidden display comes illuminated behind the black surface that communicates mode, battery charge status, and speed and temperature warnings.Â
Full control in any situation. The Remote comes in a robust and compact form. The rubber coated topside offers a good grip while the plastic of the shells are tough enough to survive a hard fall. Thanks to its completely sealed top shell, the Remote is also water and dust proof (IP65) like the Mellow Drive.

MELLOW DRIVE ASSEMBLY – THE BRAKES:
The Mellow Drive Assembly has a dual braking system that regenerates your battery. Mellow wanted you to enjoy your adrenaline rush carefree. That’s why, when you slide back the Mellow Remote not on, but two breaking systems bring the Mellow Drive to a stop. It’s a small detail, but also the most important!
The 
Mellow App for iOS and Android is the interface between the control center of your Mellow Drive and the support behind it. You can choose your riding mode, monitor the data of your rides, sync or split two Mellow Drives as 4 x 4 share and interact with the Mellow community or get in touch with the service whenever you need to.
With the Mellow App and the Mellow Drive’s built in battery meter you can predictably plan your trip and know your range. Depending on your riding mode, the range displayed in the map changes. Swipe through them and decide what’s your best way to get through the city.
