Steve Ibbertson, 16, was the over all winner of the Canadian North Star Skateboard championships at Ontario Place and wins the chance to compete for $50,000 in prize money at the World Professional Skateboarding championship in Long Beach, California Sept 24.
Ibbertson also won the boys over 14 category. Dave Ledger won the boys 12-14 class while John Henning won in the boys under 12 category. Kathy Sutherland and Julia Lowry, both 15, tied for first place in the girls open.
More than 250 competitors took part in the tournament making it the largest held in Eastern Canada. The tournament was marred when one sponsor withdrew his team and the ramp used in the bank riding event. The sponsor objected to his team having to wear North Star competition shirts in the finals.
