On Sunday, September 28th, Boarder Labs and the Vancouver Parks Board held the 2nd Longboard Safety Clinic to help teach kids in skate how to use a longboard safely.
The clinic filled very quickly with a maximum of 14 kids ready to learn the basics. We covered foot placement, foot breaking, carving, and an introduction to slides. We provided helmets, boards, and slide gloves to anyone who needed a set. Huge thanks to Landyachtz Longboards for donating gloves and a huge thanks to Predator for helping us provide enough helmets for all the kids learning that day.
The event was host to several major news networks including Global, CTV, Metro, CBC, and CKNW. The event was a total success with tons of positive feedback and hopefully this is something we can do more and more every year. The key to keeping longboarders safe and other safe is NOT to ban longboarding straight out, but educate skaters and the community about longboarding safely. Be sure to check out the gallery from the event and we encourage more kids and parents to join the next session to learn the steps longboarders can take to be safer.
