Longboarder Labs and the Vancouver Parks Board put together a city sanctioned longboard safety session on August 17th. With support from the city, Hillcrest Community Centre, and months of red tape, we were able to close down a road in Queen Elizabeth Park so that we could have a place to show kids what it takes to be safe on our local hills. During the lesson we went over basic stopping techniques, road safety, how to spot, and how to respect the hill your skating. Everyone had fun, did well, and as expected there were a few bails. It was a solid skate day. The Parks Board was so happy with the event they are pushing for a second on September 28th this year. Just like last time registration is through Hillcrest Community Centre.
