We have been working with the Vancouver Parks Board for some time now to find ways to open the community to longboarding as the sport continues to grow. On August 17th, we held the Longboarder Labs and Vancouver Parks Safety Session in Queen Elizabeth Park. The Labs’ own Juan Diaz encouraged the new boarders to learn to stop before they start and learn the basics before bombing a hill. The one day event was aimed to introduce newcomers to the techniques longboarders use to stay safe and have fun. The Vancouver Parks Board closed a section of road down on the hillside for us to practice everything from foot breaking to carving, and some sliding. We plan on doing more events like this with the city so keep in touch for future events. More photos of the day to come. Photo credit Amelia J Chow.
