Available for The BLOCKHEAD Omar Hassan “Magic Carpet” 9″ x32.25″ Modern Deck Orange: August 1990 Blockhead ad reads “Why is Omar Hassan pro at 16? Hmm… I wonder… The ad featured Omar’s first graphics, the “Magic Carpet”, Omar was also featured on the cover (TWS). Omar’s insane antics at the Blockhead Ramp while filming for Splendid Eye Torture cemented the decision to turn him pro at such a young age and as you all know, things worked out just fine.
Omar’s first (rectangle) version of the “Magic Carpet” (also referred to as “Flying Carpet” or “Arabian Nights”) came out early 1990 but with graphics starting to change every 6 months in conjunction with the ASR trade show it was already time for an update for the September show. The genie graphic was just too f’n rad to axe completely so it was given a makeover by the legendary artist Andy Jenkins.
The graphic pays tribute to Omar’s heritage and is screen printed just like the originals. The rectangle shape is the first version of the graphic inked by Ron Cameron and is absolute perfection…he just really nailed it on this one! This modern deck shape takes influences from the original but takes some liberties to update it including straight rails instead of “fish” shape.
