ONSRA Black Carve 3 Pro Belt Drive Review

ONSRA Black Carve 3 Pro AT Review Belt Drive Canada

The third iteration of the ONSRA Black Crave Pro (w/belt drive) has arrived and the world (Canada included) is stoked. While it boasts the same tough constitution and waterproof construction that the Swiss electric skateboard brand is synonymous with, Black Carve Pro 3 offers enhancements we know you’ll love. Below is a straight-up summary of why you should add this ride to your e-skate quiver for 2024 and 2025.

Review of Why ONSRA Black Carve 3 Pro All Terrain (AT) Belt Drive May be the Best Electric Skateboard for You

Speed, Power, Flow

We’re appropriately borrowing the three-word competition criteria from the World Surf League (WSL) in creating the heading above. WSL judges officially score competitors based upon the criteria of ā€œspeed, power, and flowā€ which we feel is appropriate to any electric skateboard that is made for much more than commuting. The ONSRA Black Carve 3 Pro AT w/belt drive certainly fits in that category. Offering superior speed (up to 57 kmh / 36 mph), power, and quick acceleration, this e-skate is ideal for those who will frequently ride up steeper hills and complicated gradient. But what about the all-important flow? Fret not, because with the all new CNC super wide TKP trucks and 150 mm HOTA AT rubber wheels for supreme grip and comfort, the ability to carve, slide, and draw clean lines over unclean terrain remains intact.

Heavy Terrain, But Lightweight

We know what you’re thinking; an all-terrain board must be cumbersome to lug around to and from sessions, and for travel, right? Not when it comes to the Black Carve 3 Pro AT (w/ belt drive). Constructed with 6-ply maple, 1-ply bamboo, and 3-ply fiberglass in a carbon fiber enclosure, this board is designed for heavy terrain but is magically the lightest of Black Carve models and the current direct drive version. The e-skate weighs 29.7 pounds. The deck composition also finds the perfect balance between stiffness and flexibility, which leads us to our next criteria regarding rider comfort.

Rider Comfort

In addition to an idyllic balance between rigidity and flex, the deck has a slight concave that increases rider comfort and provides for better foot control when turning and maneuvering. Further, audible comfort is found in the fact the dispite being a belt drive (which are louder than direct drive versions) the Black Carve 3 Pro AT is quite quiet. This design feature is innate to ONSRA boards because if you recall, electric skateboards are illegal in Switzerland (ONSRA’s home). As a result, one may infer that their products are intentionally built to be stealthy.

Customizable and Intuitive Remote

ONSRA’s intuitive remote with built-in 1.3 inch digital display has been a difference-maker when compared to many other electric skateboard controllers on the market in Canada. Users can easily customize use by selecting modes (Eco Mode, etc.), adjusting brakes, speeds, and acceleration percentages in comfort thanks to the updated ergonomic design. The remote also features a STATS interface that summarizes information like average ride duration, average speed, maximum speed, amperage, voltage and more. This data will help you optimize your riding experience today and plan for the next ONSRA addition to your quiver through the years to come.

2 Year Worldwide Warranty

ONSRA is so confident in its design and manufacturing that your purchase of the Black Carve 3 Pro AT w/belt drive model automatically comes with a 2 year worldwide manufacturer warranty America.

Downsides?

The brakes on the belt drive are aggressive. This is good when quick stops are required (i.e. a critter runs across your path) but is not as comforting when coming back down steep slopes when you prefer to break at a gradual pace to avoid being jolted forward. This part is ā€œout of the boxā€ so be sure to use your remote to customize braking before taking your Black Carve 3 Pro AT out to play. Otherwise, these braking concerns rarely come into play in day-to-day use. The only other small downside (which is too harsh of a word, really) is that some may find new CNC super wide TKP trucks a little harder to turn that previously more narrow iterations.
