The downside is that you sacrifice a bit of grip in turns, and the board may not feel as locked-in when cornering aggressively. Top mount decks, on the other hand, are mounted directly to the bottom of the board with no cutouts. This places the rider higher above the trucks and wheels, increasing leverage and responsiveness. The higher ride height means more weight transfer over your trucks, which gives you powerful, aggressive carving and enhanced cornering ability. While they can feel twitchier and more demanding, especially at lower speeds, experienced riders appreciate the precision and edge control that top mounts provide. That said, the elevated platform requires more effort when pushing, and wheelbite is a bigger concern, often needing risers or wheel wells to compensate.

If your main goal is cruising, commuting, or pushing for long distances with ease and comfort, a drop-through will likely be the more enjoyable choice.
